Mark Majerus was raised on a farm/ranch near Lewistown, MT. He attended grade school in a one-room country school at Ross Fork and graduated from nearby Moore High School. He received a B.S. (1970) and an M.S. (1972) in Forestry and Range Ecology from the University of Montana-Missoula. From 1972 to 1975 he was a Research Associate with the Reclamation Research Unit at Montana State University-Bozeman where he conducted research on coal strip mines in Colstrip, Decker and Roundup, MT. From 1975 until his retirement in 2006 he worked at the USDA-NRCS Plant Materials Center in Bridger, MT, the last 8 years as Manager. Throughout his career he has worked with native plants for forage, reclamation, wildlife habitat, and native landscaping. He has also consulted on seed collection, evaluation and seed production in northern China and Outer Mongolia.
